The dinosaur tracks have been exposed by the flow of the Purgatoire River which has been slowly eroding higher layers of rock away. This photo shows the unique way in which the ancient lake bed has been eroded and broken off in large rectangular blocks. The park service has attempted to divert the river some to prevent further erosion, but it really makes you wonder how many tracks have yet to be exposed. While the river would destroy current tracks, there are likely more tracks waiting for there chance in the sun.
